Hepatic von Meyenburg complex: a trigger of severe portal hypertension

چکیده
To the Editor: Multiple bile duct hamartoma [von Meyenburg complex (VMC)] is a benign liver malformation that includes biliary cystic lesions with congenital hepatic fibrosis causing ductal plate malformations (1–7). It is generally asymptomatic and tends to be identified either at autopsy or during histological examinations (1). We report a very rare case of severe portal hypertension caused by VMC diagnosed by magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) and histopathology.

Von Meyenburg complex in a bariatric patient.
An obese 54 year old female patient with a BMI of 43kg/m2 was scheduled to undergo diagnostic laparoscopy and laparoscopic gastric bypass operation. At laparoscopy both liver lobes showed widespread small lesions involving all surface of liver, suggestive of metastatic malignant disease. Liver was normal in shape with multiple intricate white to pale yellow nodular spots of average diameter 0.3...
متن کاملRare liver tumor: symptomatic giant von Meyenburg complex
von Meyenburg complexes are hamartomas that arise from intra-hepatic bile ducts. Symptomatic lesions are uncommon and giant lesions are exceedingly rare. When encountered, they should be excised because there are reports of malignant change in large, symptomatic lesions. We report a case of a symptomatic giant von Meyenburg complex.

A 65-year-old man presented with mildly elevated gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT) serum level on blood tests done for general check-up, and the finding of hepatomegaly and diffuse heterogeneity of the hepatic parenchyma on abdominal ultrasound. The patient’s history included essential hypertension treated with angiotensin converting enzyme-inhibitors. The patient had no other features of the ...

This is the first report of living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) for congenital hepatic fibrosis (CHF) using a mother's graft with von Meyenburg complex. A 6-year-old girl with CHF, who suffered from recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding, was referred to our hospital for liver transplantation. Her 38-year-old mother was investigated as a living donor and multiple biliary hamartoma were seen ...
متن کاملLate presentation of portal vein thrombosis as a complication of appendicitis.
A case of appendicitis which resulted in portal pyaemia, hepatic and splenic abscesses, presumed portal vein thrombosis and subsequent portal hypertension is described. It confirms the merit of ultrasonic imaging in monitoring abscess resolution but questions the ability of the technique to recognise acute suppurative portal endophlebitis.
